The Cynic

Mon May 19, 2008 at 12:10:40 PM PDT

"What we need now is not a leader to assure us of our greatness, but one who will challenge us to reassert it."  That is the pull quote on the cover of Esquire Magazine for June's issue, along with a photograph of our man Barack.  Follow me below the fold to see a cynical man's take on the aching need in our country for Obama's leadership.

It's the Economics, Stupid! Leading Economists Support Obama on the Gas Tax

The Colbert Report is going on the road, this time to Philadelphia to cover the Democratic Primary. Whenever Colbert goes on the road, he does a fundraiser to help the local community.  See me on the flip to learn how you can help bring funds to PA schools and positive spin to Obama, all at the same time!

Breaking: Michigan Do-Over: June 3rd

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 03:11:32 PM PDT

Not much of a substantive diary, but it looks like we're getting a do-over in Michigan, on June 3rd.

Will this help Hillary?  or Obama?  Will the whole thing (oh please God please please please) be wrapped up by then, such that their delegates won't matter that much anyway?

How do you know Iraq's okay? "You fly over it"

I would say that The Daily Show holds the title of MVP in the game of shining a light on the seedy underbelly of crazy wingnuttery.  Here's Jon and the gang's latest, from the December 12th edition of TDS:

Wingnuts, Abortion, Cheap Labor, and The End of the World

Thu Mar 16, 2006 at 08:30:26 PM PDT

Ahhh, we're finally getting closer to the real reasons underlying the Republican assault on women's rights and contraception:  it's that abortion prevents the birth of cheap labor!

But that's not all!  By not having babies, we women are causing the decline and fall of western civilization!

Women are Crucial to Democrats' Success

Wed Jun 08, 2005 at 07:21:30 AM PDT

These thoughts have been swirling around my head for the past several months.

This is not an entry into the current "is DailyKos a sexist environment or not?" flamewar, but rather, a summary of reasons why we Democrats really need to focus on the women's vote, if we are to succeed both in national and state-wide contests in the future.

but wait, there's more.....

Fauxnews.com:Gays get kids from "abandoned kids store"

Thu Mar 17, 2005 at 02:48:21 PM PDT

John Gibson is an idiot, AND an asshole.

Here's the money quote:

Gays can't have kids -- other than going to the abandoned kids store and getting one or two, or borrowing sperm from someone with more sperm than brains -- so by definition they're out of the marriage game.

Brent Bozell is the new Gannon/Guckert

Fri Mar 11, 2005 at 05:08:01 PM PDT

Check it out:

SpeakSpeak.org story

Nashua Advocate has the whole story

The net-net?  It's Brent Bozell's Cybercast News Service that will be the GOPUSA's preferred news source.  And furthermore, they've been accused of google-bombing in order to keep their version of the GG story in prominent play.

Here's what was in my daily e-mail from the producers at Nightline:

IF YOU CAN'T BEAT 'EM, BLOG 'EM
March 8, 2005

Got something to say? Got access to the Internet? You're one step away from being a blogger. And these days, bloggers are having an affect on politics, news, on everything, really. And blogs are changing the way we do news. There's no doubt about it.

Academic Freedom Under Attack, or, Where are all the Commies?

Fri Mar 04, 2005 at 07:22:40 AM PDT

I'm sure all of us on DKos feel that one of the greatest things about our country is the freedom we have to express ourselves--in print, on the "internets," by screaming at a protest march, whatever.  Freedom of speech is one of the most sacred rights we hold.  Unfortunately, this freedom is under serious attack, especially on our college campuses.  Here's three examples of attempts to quash academic freedom; it's hard to believe these are occurring right here in the good old U. S. of A.

Calling OH Kossacks: OH SB 24 Must Be Stopped!

Mon Feb 07, 2005 at 10:54:42 PM PDT

Ohio Senate Bill 24 should be called Ohio Senate Bill 1984, because the thought police are coming to your campus, and they're going to interfere with your teaching and learning, unless we stop them.
